Pomfret is very popular in India and south east asia. There is white pomfret and black pomfret. It doesn’t taste fishy, it has white fleshy meat and has central and side bones. Its a good source of Vitamin A, D, B ,B12 ,iodine, good for eyesight, hair, skin and nervous system.
This recipe is very easy to prepare and tastes delicious.
INGREDIENTS
- Pomfret 1
- Chilli powder 1-2 tbsp
- Turmeric powder 2 tsp
- Garlic paste 1 tbsp
- Coriander powder 2 -3tbsp
- Pepper powder 1 tbsp
- Cumin powder 2 tsp
- Lemon juice 2 tbsp
- Coconut oil 2 tbsp + 2 tbsp
- Curry leaves a handful
- Shallots finely chopped 4-5
- Salt to taste
METHOD
Wash and clean the fish nicely.
Mix lemon juice, salt, garlic paste, chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, pepper powder, coconut oil 2 tbsp, coriander powder in a bowl.
Apply on the fish nicely in between slits and inside.
Marinate for 2 hours in refrigerator.
Heat an iron tawa, add coconut oil and curry leaves, keep the fish on the tawa. Close with a lid and on low flame cook for 10 to 12 minutes.
Flip the fish slowly and cook on the other side, when it is cooked for 5 minutes add the sliced shallots on the sides of the tawa in the oil near the fish sides, close the lid and cook for 7 to 8 minutes. A nice aroma of shallots will come.
Serve hot with rice and lemon wedges.
