Chicken is low in fat and calories and is considered as a lean meat with loads of protein. It gives zinc and iron and is an excellent source for Vitamins B6, B12 and D.

Pepper chicken is very easy to make and it goes well with idli, dosa, rice ,roti or bread. I have added very less ingredients, lemon and yogurt gives a tangy taste, pepper gives spiceness and overall the dish tastes delicious.

INGREDIENTS

  • Chicken with bones 1/2 kg
  • Onion medium 1
  • Garlic (Indian) 5-6
  • Ginger 1 inch
  • Pepper 1 tsp
  • Coriander seeds 1 tbsp
  • Jeera(Cumin)1/2 tsp
  • Saunf(fennel seeds) 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 3/4 tsp
  • Yogurt 3 tbsp
  • Lemon juice 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Refined oil  1 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing

METHOD

In a frying pan on low heat dry fry coriander seeds, cumin seeds, pepper corns and fennel seeds for a minute or two. Let it cool down.

Blend the above mixture in a blender without adding water. After it is powdered add garlic , ginger and lemon juice and blend it. Keep it aside.

Cut the chicken into medium pieces. Clean the chicken, drain the water. Rub salt , turmeric powder ,yogurt and the above paste all over the chicken.

Marinate overnight or marinate for 4-5 hours in a refrigerator.

Heat oil in a deep pan, add finely chopped onions and saute till they become translucent. Add the marinated chicken pieces, cover and cook turning the chicken pieces in between till it is done.

Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve pepper chicken with dosa/appam/rice/ roti / bread.
