Pakoras means finely chopped onions, chillies and spice mixes are mixed in gram flour and deep fried in oil. It is a very popular snack made in India as it is easy to make ,can be made when you have to entertain guests or on a rainy or cold day

INGREDIENTS

  • Chick pea flour  1 cup
  • Rice flour.        3tbsp
  • Water
  • Onion finely sliced length wise 1 cup
  • Chilli powder. 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds.   1/2 tsp
  • Fennel seeds. 1/2 tsp
  • Carom seeds.   1/2 tsp
  • Asefoetida.  1/2 tsp
  • Sunflower oil for deep frying
  • Salt to taste

METHOD

In a deep vessel add chick pea flour, rice flour and salt. Mix well.

Add carom seeds, fennel seeds, turmeric powder, chilli powder and asefoetida . Mix well with your fingers. Add the chopped onions and incorporate everything.

Sprinkle little water at a time and mix well. Make it into a moist dough, it should not be soggy or while frying it will soak lot of oil and will not be crispy.The consistency of the batter should be very thick.

Heat oil in a deep pan / kadai add the batter little by little into the oil, when it turns golden colour turn and fry. When both sides are golden in color take it out into a kitchen towel. Fry in batches.

Serve hot with tomato sauce and tea.
